同步带因牙齿则可以分为梯形齿和弧齿两类,而其中的弧齿又有三种系列,也就是H系列又称HTD带,即是圆弧齿,S系列又称为STPD带,即是平顶圆弧齿,和R系列,也就是凹顶抛物线齿。

则梯形齿同步带有分为单面有齿和双面有齿两种,简单的称为单面带和双面带。而双面带又按齿的排列方式分为对称齿型(代号DA)和交错齿型(代号DB)。对于梯形齿同步带则是有节距制和模数制两种。在我国则是采用的是节距制。并根据ISO 5296制订了同步带传动相应标准GB/T 11361~11362-1989和GB/T 11616-1989。对于弧齿同步带,它出了齿型是曲线型外,其它的结构都和梯形齿同步带大致相同,带的节距相当,齿形也比较高,齿根较厚和齿根圆角半径等都比梯形齿大。当带齿受载后,分布的应力状态也比较好,能够平缓齿根的集中受力,从而提高了齿的承载能力。所以,弧齿同步带比梯形齿同步带传递的功率大,并且还能防止啮合过程中齿的干涉。同时由于弧齿同步带的耐磨性能比较好,工作时噪音也比较小,且不用润滑,所以常用于有粉尘的恶劣环境。现在已经广泛的用在食品、汽车、纺织、制药、印刷、造纸等行业。
